What is Social Business and Why Should You Care?

Social business. It’s certainly a white-hot buzzword these days (#socbiz). But what does it really mean and why do business today need to care?

At the Heart of Business event in Boston, we asked presenters to give us their thoughts on what social business means to them. You can hear their thoughts on this important topic in the short video clips above. The perspectives were as varied as the presenters themselves, but a common thread was the ability to bring together organizational teams, customers, and partners to collaborate, exchange information and ideas, and drive innovation in new and better ways. This new way of seamlessly working together as a team – in groups from two people to enterprise-wide collaboration across borders – is the next evolution in transforming the way business is done. Spreading ideas that inspire. Having the right tools at the right time to deliver business value in ways never before possible. Working toward a common goal.

Organizations who have grasped the concept of social business understand that social is no longer something that can be done in isolation – in just one area of the business or just as a social media function. It is the business. From senior management to sales and service to Human Resources – staff across all departments are engaging in social on some level to educate the market, find and close business, recruit new staff, and serve customers. Those businesses who are agile and embrace this new way of doing business will be in a position to transform their organizations in a way that delights their customers and allows them to not only survive, but thrive, in this new world of social business. Of course, having the right tools to enable this transformation is critical.

Citation provides professional advice and compliance packages to business clients in the UK. They specialize in guaranteed protection in the high-risk areas of employment law and health and safety regulations. One of the keys to Citation’s success has been Salesforce.com. The challenge that they faced was that Salesforce for Outlook does not support Terminal Services environments. The ability to easily schedule appointments in Salesforce and provide mobile access to this Salesforce information in online and offline modes were critical to Citation’s sales organization. Frequently asked questions

What is the best practice for setting up the sync policy in Google Apps and Gmail?

In an upcoming version of Riva, you will see a new option for the Address Book Modules – Contact Mode: Require Group: Only sync new items with the specified group. This will be the recommended sync policy setting for most Riva customers using Google Apps and Gmail.

The reason for this recommendation is that it allows customers to only have contacts synced from Google Apps and Gmail to their CRM which they intently create in the specific Riva created CRM Group Name.

Google has a default setting to create new contacts for all emails sent and received. If the “Sync All New” option is selected as a Contact Mode, Riva will create a contact record for every email recipient contact that Google creates automatically. This could be contacts for non-business and personal emails, which we don’t recommend as a best practice.
